Thanks to all who donated to our fundraising efforts for the MS150 — a two day bike ride from Westminster to Ft. Collins. We had an excellent time with excellent weather.
One of my friends from grad school organized a team called “Super Group” which consisted of Jess and I and four other people (John, Chris, Diana, and Morgan). Not a large team, but it was fun to participate in the event with other friends. Here we are before the start of day 1 unloading our bikes.

We arrived in Fort Collins to a full on party. The event had over 3000 participants, so there was a lot of food, drinks, and snacks. After a full day of riding (71 or so miles), we arrived to a party at CSU. Here we are relaxing with the group and enjoying some time with our friends.

All of us from team “Super Group” camped in Jess’s friend Katie’s backyard about a mile and a half from the event area (thanks Katie!).

Day two consisted of either 74 miles of 100 miles, and Jess and I chose to do the century route. The route added on additional miles, but more importantly it added on some significant hills up and down the perimiter of horse tooth resevoir. It was steep climbing followed by steep decents, and after the first 30 miles of riding we both were pretty tired already. We continued on and eventually stopped at the lunch stop area where we chilled out in the shade for about an hour, and then we pushed on to the finish. The afternoon was pretty hot which made for some slow going, but we had a good time.
I applied sunscreen to Jess’s back both days, but apparently I didn’t get enough on her right shoulder cause it burned more than any other part of her body. So, on day 2, I made sure to apply SPF 50+ heavy all over her.

After riding the century we were pretty tired. Here we are finishing up day two.

I had the Garmin on my bike, so I was able to get a map of our route — here is day 2 going from Fort Collins to Westminster on the century ride. As you can see it only clocked 95.0 miles. Not sure if that is the fault of the garmin or of the race measurement, but I’m leaning towards race measurement.

If you take a look at Jess’s knee you can see the scrape. A little accident with only 15 miles to go caused her bike to bump her knee as she was putting her chain back on.

Team Super Group is finished, and we all look tired.

We’re both resting up right now, but need to stay tuned in to our triathlon training schedule.
Wow! It was really fun to see these photos. Looks like you guys had a great time, albeit exhausting by the end. It’s very obvious that you two are defenitely made of IRON. St. George 2010???????
